Public education has been the target
of Governor Chris Christie since he took office in January, and his
attacks are only
intensifying. Member engagement is now critical in this fight for
the future of our schools and our profession. In order to
communicate and engage members quickly
, Member Action Center
(MAC)
bulletin boards are now on display
in each
building. These MAC
displays are the "go-to" places for the latest information about
current challenges and strategies for
engaging members as we fight the legislative proposals during this
difficult political climate. If you have already visited your
MAC bulletin board, current legislative alerts now posted include the
attack on pensions and benefits of current, future and
retired members, the 2% cap on salaries and benefits, contract
imposition, the approval of contracts by the Executive County
Superintendents, and the cap on sick-leave buyouts. You should have
also noticed the simple and direct format of each alert
that includes the Issue
(brief summary of the update), the Talking Points (key messages of
the update), and To
Do
(recommended actions). As new alerts become available, they will be
transmitted to each building representative for posting
on the MAC. Therefore,
members should check the MAC in their buildings
regularly.
The same MAC documents are accessible to
all members by signing onto
njea.org.
